Aims of the Department

The aim of the ICT department is to give every pupil at Carnforth High School a good ICT background that will enable them to enter the world of work, equipped with the IT knowledge that they need in this modern world. We also want to prepare students to use ICT safely and securely both in and out of school. We do this by fostering good working relationships between pupils and pupils and pupils and the staff.

The department is constantly striving to bring in new and relevant software and technology into lessons so pupils can experience the ever-changing landscape which is ICT. So as well as 'Office' software pupils are also given chances to use website design, graphic production, animation, sound editing and video editing software. We have also included some Computer Science topics and software in the key stage three curriculum.

The department has access to 4 ICT suites. Three of the suites have at least 30 computers so pupils have their own workstation in lessons. The suites like all computers at Carnforth High School are connected to a school network so pupils can access their work at any computer in school. Currently machines in the ICT suites are running Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2003.
