About Our School

Location & Facilities
The High School enjoys an attractive rural site on the outskirts of Carnforth but within 5 minutes walk of the town centre.  The modern and well-maintained school buildings, some of which were built in 2005, are set within 12 acres of first class playing fields.  These provide facilities for a wide range of sports.

A Caring School
The pastoral support at Carnforth is second to none; every student is treated as an individual from their first contact with the school until they leave at 16.  The staff and governors are committed to maintaining this as one of the most valuable features of the school.
Some senior students act as prefects or are involved in helping younger students in the school in a paired reading scheme.  One result of this is that the local 6th forms frequently comment on the maturity and sense of responsibility shown by Carnforth students.
The School has a tradition of producing happy and well-balanced pupils who enjoy being part of the school.  We believe that no one can produce their best unless they are in a disciplined and supportive environment.  The school ethos is CARRE- Community, Achievement, Responsibility, Respect and Effort

A Successful School
Overall, Carnforth High School's GCSE results have been consistently amongst the best in the area. In 2008  83% of year 11 students achieved 5 or more GCSE grades at C or above and 55% achieved 5 or more GCSE grades at C or above which included English and Maths. The school follows the National Curriculum to which Drama is added. The Ofsted inspection in February 2006 judged the school to be "good" (Grade 2) in virtually every category, whether major or minor.
Carnforth students also produce some outstanding results in other areas such as sport, music and drama, reflecting the wide ranging quality of education that the school provides. They enjoy a range of extra curricular opportunities including visits to Europe.
From September 2009 Carnforth High School will be the lead school for the 14-19 SHD diploma.

A Well Equipped School
The Governors are committed to providing as much money as possible for equipment and books within the school.  There is also invaluable help from parents through the High School Association that we encourage all parents to support. New rooms for Technology, Art, Careers, Maths,ICT, English and Science were opened in 2005.
