Ed Balls visits Carnforth High School

News item from Lancaster Evening Post March 2010 More

We were very fortunate to welcome the Secretary of State, Mr Ed Balls who was accompanied by Morecambe and Lunesdale MP, Geraldine Smith and Helen Denton, Lancashire County Council's children and young people executive director,
to our school during March 2010.

We were told about the visit the day before they arrived at school.
The Head Prefect Team, along with Mr Shannon, greeted our visitors, we took them on a tour of the school ending in our new school Library.
We were joined in the Library by the school council, a group of pupils who meet regularly to represent the views of pupils. We discussed school life and the council's involvement in the planning of changes which benefit all our pupils. Mr Balls was very easy to talk to and he even discussed Preston North End football team!

IET Technology Challenge

IET Faraday - Technology Challenge

We recently took part in a Technology Day. IET engineers and student engineers from Manchester University, organised an 'Inter-School Challenge Event', hosted by LGGS. The participating schools were Carnforth High, Heysham High, LGGS, LRGS and Our Lady's.

Each team consisted of six, Year 9, pupils who were given the challenge to design a method of moving one litre of water from one container to another container on a higher level, within two minutes.

The pupils had to:
1. Design a mechanism for moving the water.
2. Design a folder of ideas.
3. Create a video of their learning.

Well done to everyone who took part, it was a very rewarding day and the concentration and team effort of all involved can be seen by the pictrures displayed on this page. The winning team were LRGS who won £250 and a trophy to be displayed at their school.
This UK challenge has taken place in thirty six achools around the country and the final was held at Manchester

Open Evening Wednesday 15th September from 6pm onwards, come along and see what our fantastic school has to offer your child
