Year 8 and 9 – Whole School SEND Review

Dear parents of Year 8 & 9 students only.

The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) is funding a two-year Whole School SEND Review (WSS Review) process.

This review provides a framework that enables school leaders to evaluate the effectiveness of current SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) provision through a structured self-evaluation and peer review with another school. The SEND Review Guide and peer-review process helps schools identify areas for improvement within their SEND provision, equips schools to create and review improvement plans. This evaluation process supports schools to embed a focus on SEND as a fundamental to normal school improvement practice.

Manchester Metropolitan University (Manchester Met) will evaluate the impact of the WSS Review, which will focus on improvements in academic outcomes for students with SEND, in addition to student well-being and behaviour outcomes such as attendance and exclusions.

I am delighted to announce that Carnforth High School has been chosen to take part in this project and this will provide us with insights leading to improvements in attainment and provision for our students with SEND.

Full details of this SEND trial can be found in the two ‘WSS’ documents below.

If you decide that you do not want your child to be involved in the research, then please sign the RESEARCH PROJECT WITHDRAWAL SLIP that can be found on the last page of the ‘Parent /Guardian Information Sheet’ and return it to the school. You are free to withdraw your child from this research project at any time.
