Outlined are 5 revision strategies that pupils have been looking at in assemblies and parents were given information on.

What is revision?

Effective revision helps you:

  • Learn the right information
  • Apply it confidently in exams
  • Prepare thoroughly
  • Alleviate pressure

Top 5 Revision Strategies

1. 📚 Flashcards

  • Great for memorizing facts, formulas, quotes, and dates
  • Use one topic per card
  • Shuffle, sort, and revisit regularly
  • Turn them into active recall tools by writing questions on one side and answers on the other

2. ❓ Self-Testing

  • Write questions while studying (e.g., watching videos or reading)
  • Wait a day or two, then test yourself
  • Cover answers, highlight gaps, and retest
  • Works for all subjects

3. 🧩 Mindmaps

  • Organize topics visually
  • Use keywords, images, and color
  • Build understanding and spot connections
  • Adapt for literature, science, and more

4.  📝Knowledge Organisers

  • Summarize key facts and terms by topic
  • Use them to support exam answers
  • Include definitions, diagrams, and examples

5. ⏱️ Timed Exam Practice

  • Simulate exam conditions
  • Use timers and pause to check notes if needed
  • Build confidence and time management

In school support
