In KS4 pupils are entered onto the OCR National Level 2 ICT course (2010). This is a controlled assessment course which allows pupils to achieve various awards/qualification which are equivalent to GCSE awards.
The current qualification award levels are:
(Please be aware that some Sixth Forms and Colleges may only accept this qualification as 1 GCSE equivalent even if a pupil has achieved a higher award. It is recommended that, if possible, pupils state which units they completed and what level they received when applying for further education.)
This course has been developed to recognize learner’s skills, knowledge and understanding of Information and Communication Technology functions, environments and operations. The learners carry out a range of tasks that have been designed to recognize their achievements in a modern, practical way that is relevant to the workplace.
Most pupils who take ICT at Carnforth High School finish with either the First Certificate or National Certificate Award. The different awards are judged on how many units of work pupils complete while studying the course. We currently offer the following units at Carnforth High School:
To achieve the First Certificate Award pupils must complete Unit One, four units from column B and four units from column C.
