Curriculum

Our school curriculum is what students experience, in their lessons, throughout their time at Carnforth. Our staff design the Carnforth curriculum to ensure a broad and balanced academic offer in addition to a wide range of cross and co-curricular experiences that promote personal development. At every opportunity, we hope to
develop our students’ character, alongside their future opportunities, in line with our school communities three core values: confidence, purpose and respect. When OFSTED visited the school in December, they agreed with us, suggesting Carnforth pupils study an ambitious range of subjects throughout.

Our curriculum aims to build upon prior knowledge and provide challenge. The delivery of the curriculum ensures pupils learn more and remember more, with opportunities to make links between topics and subjects and extend knowledge wherever possible.

Formative assessment is planned to ensure learning is broad and effective, but not to be the focus; we believe in learning for enjoyment and to equip our pupils for the world
beyond school.

School Curriculum Vision

Our vision is that when a student leaves Carnforth High School in year 11 we want them to:

  • Have plans in place for their future
  • Know how to maintain a healthy body and mind
  • Have respect and understanding for themselves and others, regardless of differences
  • Have productive roles as a contributing member of society
  • Enjoy learning and see the value of lifelong learning
  • Have achieved their best academic outcomes

We believe our curriculum allows all pupils to achieve these outcomes.

All Carnforth High School students partake in lessons which take their understanding beyond the National Curriculum. We have high expectations of our pupils and their learning is placed at the heart of school life. We operate a 2-week, 50 hour timetable (5 lessons per day) which allows us to offer a wide range of subjects.

The way in which our curriculum is planned aims to build upon prior knowledge and provide challenge. The delivery of the curriculum ensures pupils learn more and remember more, with opportunities to make links between topics and subjects and extend knowledge wherever possible. Formative assessment is planned to ensure learning is broad and effective, but not to be the focus; we believe in learning for enjoyment and to equip our pupils for the world beyond school.
